Driving licences and medical certificates
Authorised medical examination centre in Barcelona. No appointment needed, about twenty minutes, and you leave with the provisional certificate in your hand.
At Policlínica ICOA we carry out the medical examination required to obtain, renew or exchange a driving licence, as well as firearms, boating, scuba-diving and official medical certificates. We are an authorised centre: we send the result straight to the DGT and you walk out with a provisional certificate so you can keep driving.
No appointment needed — you can simply walk in. If you would rather secure a slot, you can book one.
How it works
-
Bring your ID
That is all. We take the photograph here and it is included in the price.
-
Medical examination
Sight, hearing, coordination and a short psychometric assessment. About twenty minutes in total.
-
We send it to the DGT
The result is filed electronically the same day. You do not have to visit a traffic office.
-
You leave with the provisional
We give you a certificate valid for three months so you can keep driving while the definitive licence is posted to you.
Driving licence
| Procedure | Price |
|---|---|
| First licence (bring your ID only; we take the photo) | €49 |
| Reduced rate for partner driving schools | €35 |
| Renewal (bring your old licence). €49 + €24.58 in fees | €73.58 |
| Over-70s (no government fees payable) | €49 |
| Exchange of a foreign licence (we handle the DGT paperwork) | €49 |
When the examination is over we hand you a provisional certificate valid for three months, so you can keep driving while the DGT issues the definitive licence.
The new licence reaches your home by post within those three months. If it has not arrived by then, you are entitled to claim it.
You may renew your licence —car, motorbike, lorry, bus…— up to three months before it expires. And if it has already expired, that is fine too: a late renewal carries no fine and no penalty.

Frequently asked questions
Can I renew my licence if it has already expired?
Yes. A licence can be renewed after it has expired and doing so late carries no fine and no penalty. What you must not do is drive while it is expired, so it is worth sorting out before you get behind the wheel.
How far in advance can I renew it?
Up to three months before the expiry date. You lose nothing by coming early: the new licence runs from the day the old one ends.
How long does the new licence take to arrive?
It reaches your home by post within the following three months. In the meantime you drive with the provisional certificate we hand you here. If it has not arrived by then, you can claim it.
Do you handle the exchange of a foreign licence?
Yes. It costs €49 and we deal with the DGT ourselves: you only need to bring the licence from your country and take the examination.
Does it cover motorbikes, lorries and buses?
Yes. We carry out the examination for every category: B, A, A1, A2, C, D and E.
Do I need an appointment?
No. You can come Monday to Friday from 16:30 to 20:30, or on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 13:30.
How much does it cost?
A first licence is €49. A renewal is €73.58, DGT fees included. Over-70s pay no fees: €49.
